Bomb Scare
Nothing like a bomb scare and a suspicious package being detonated downstairs to start the morning off right. I wanted to work so badly today that I found a way into my building (through the mesenger entrance on 40th street) when access to the main entrance was shut off by the NYPD. Read all about it on Chris's site - you won't find it anywhere else (at least not yet).

I love that the file/page name is 26bang.
Posted by: Jon Thornton at October 26, 2005 10:52 AMI was wondering if a major outlet was going to pick up this news. When 3 transformers blew on the Metro North track that runs under Park Ave during the summer, I saw a HUGE plume of smoke go up and thought something really bad happened. In the end, it took Metro North over 2 hours to restore service into and out of Grand Central. I told tons of folks in my office that "if you take Metro North, you are in trouble" and then nothing, nada, zip from the news outlets. If it wasn't for my doormen who have a radio scanner, I wouldn't have known anything about it at all and I would have thought I was crazy.
Someone told me that only 10% - 25% of what actually happens in NYC is reported each day - that is all the public can handle - there is just so MUCH newsworthy stuff that happens each day that you can't report it all and you sure as hell can't process it all without living in fear all the time. Makes sense to me, even if that figure is totally wrong.
